Located to the south, San Antonio may best be known because of its history with the Alamo. The San Antonio Riverwalk is a popular place for people to visit, offering restaurants, shops, and an array of hotels. Lackland Air Force Base is found here, which provides a significant amount of employment and also brings in tourism. It’s where basic training for new recruits takes place, meaning virtually everyone in the US Air Force will pass through at one point in time or another. A number of other companies have corporate headquarters here as well, including USAA and HEB.
El Paso have the convenience of being located to the Far West, just miles away from the New Mexico border. It is also along the Rio Grande, just across from Chihuahua, Mexico, providing the convenience of international transport. El Paso is home to more than 70 Fortune 500 companies, including Delphi, Boeing, Eureka, and Hoover. Education is predominant within the economy, and between the three school districts, is amongst the top employers. The manufacturing industry is also responsible for clothing, food production, construction materials, medical equipment, plastics, and electronics. Pecans and a number of vegetables are also farmed here.
Texas as a Transportation Hub
Texas is the largest state by landmass, and therefore it presents some challenges, particularly in regards to transportation. It’s not easy for companies to send cargo from one side of the state to the other in a timely fashion. However, there are railways as well as the port of Galveston in order to assist with transportation. It is also easy to transport items to and from Mexico as well as into the United States as a result of the infrastructure of highways.
